Narrative:
Cruising in IMC on heading to ftz. Went through abrupt wind direction change from 160 degrees at 6 KTS to 250 degrees at 20 KTS. Wind correction for initial wind caused plane to go off course to east side of course. As counter adjustment was being put in to ease plane back on course, ATC inquired about heading and then issued vectors to the west of ftz and around st louis class B airspace. Plane was off course 2 dots on VOR set on ftz. Pilot was on 2ND leg of 1ST IMC IFR flight and was flying plane without autoplt, and he had only flown twice before this trip. Additional experience under actual IFR conditions and in aircraft that pilot has greater experience with should prevent a recurrence of this situation. IMC conditions were too taxiing for limited experience IFR pilot. Greater experience will be attained before attempting flight into such severe WX as was encountered on this trip.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SEL SMA DRIFTED OFF TRACK DURING AN IFR IMC FLT DUE TO CHANGEABLE WIND CONDITIONS IN WX, RESULTING IN APCH CTLR INTERVENTION TO NOT ONLY BRING RPTR BACK TO COURSE, BUT PROVIDE VECTORS TO STAY OUTSIDE OF CLASS B AIRSPACE.
