Narrative:
On approach into msp at XA00 local, prior to FAF, approach control told us that the RVR for runway 30R was 4000 ft. ATIS at that time said the visibility was 1 1/2 mi. The approach controller then said that tower might be calling some other visibility, calling into question the RVR value. We continued for the ILS runway 30R because we were 1-2 mi from the FAF and we were assuming that tower was calling the higher value. After we passed the FAF, tower called the visibility below CAT 1 ILS minimums. We continued the approach and went missed.

Narrative: ON APCH INTO MSP AT XA00 LCL, PRIOR TO FAF, APCH CTL TOLD US THAT THE RVR FOR RWY 30R WAS 4000 FT. ATIS AT THAT TIME SAID THE VISIBILITY WAS 1 1/2 MI. THE APCH CTLR THEN SAID THAT TWR MIGHT BE CALLING SOME OTHER VISIBILITY, CALLING INTO QUESTION THE RVR VALUE. WE CONTINUED FOR THE ILS RWY 30R BECAUSE WE WERE 1-2 MI FROM THE FAF AND WE WERE ASSUMING THAT TWR WAS CALLING THE HIGHER VALUE. AFTER WE PASSED THE FAF, TWR CALLED THE VISIBILITY BELOW CAT 1 ILS MINIMUMS. WE CONTINUED THE APCH AND WENT MISSED.
