Narrative:
A man, mr XXX, representing himself as an air carrier X pilot entered the cockpit and presented me with a ragged air carrier X identify, airman certificate, daytona beach parking pass, and boarding card. Well dressed in suit and tie this man was polite and well spoken. He said he was familiar with our procedures. I asked him about luggage stowage and suggested he coordinate with the flight attendant to find space. As we were late, had a maintenance item with our aft stairs, I asked him to wait outside to keep the cockpit accessible. At door closing I asked the #1 flight attendant his whereabouts she said row X, and as she is married to a pilot I assumed she had asked him to situation there, as is common practice. Upon reflection of a gut feeling I contacted air carrier X operations the next day in orlando. They flatly stated that the identify shown did not resemble their current one. I contacted mr YYY at system operations control to give details. He found out that the impostor resigned from air carrier X awhile back. He put me in jeopardy of far 125.XXX.
