Narrative:
VFR flight from nyg nnw to class east airspace between hef class D and R-6608A, wnw to front royal, va. I obtained a briefing from leesburg FSS just prior to takeoff (XA45 local). WX was VMC, no NOTAMS for route of flight, according to FSS. En route I listened to hef's tower frequency. They were asking departing traffic if they had ATIS and understood restr area. I tuned in ATIS and found there was a special restr area running from the beltway (I-495) 1 1/2 mi on either side of I-66 west to route 29 extending some distance down route 29. This restr airspace extended to 3000 ft. I soon realized I was 'in' the restr area (or close) so I climbed to 3100 ft. I later called lesburg FSS, they had no knowledge of restr area. I also called manassas tower. They stated that the restr area was a special restr area. The restr area should be officially activated and FSS allowed to brief on it.

Title: AFTER A BRIEFING FROM FSS, PLT TOOK OFF FROM NYG ON A LCL FLT. DURING THE FLT, THE PLT INADVERTENTLY ENTERED A TEMPORARY RESTR AREA IN THE VICINITY OF HEF ARPT.
Narrative: VFR FLT FROM NYG NNW TO CLASS E AIRSPACE BTWN HEF CLASS D AND R-6608A, WNW TO FRONT ROYAL, VA. I OBTAINED A BRIEFING FROM LEESBURG FSS JUST PRIOR TO TKOF (XA45 LCL). WX WAS VMC, NO NOTAMS FOR RTE OF FLT, ACCORDING TO FSS. ENRTE I LISTENED TO HEF'S TWR FREQ. THEY WERE ASKING DEPARTING TFC IF THEY HAD ATIS AND UNDERSTOOD RESTR AREA. I TUNED IN ATIS AND FOUND THERE WAS A SPECIAL RESTR AREA RUNNING FROM THE BELTWAY (I-495) 1 1/2 MI ON EITHER SIDE OF I-66 W TO RTE 29 EXTENDING SOME DISTANCE DOWN RTE 29. THIS RESTR AIRSPACE EXTENDED TO 3000 FT. I SOON REALIZED I WAS 'IN' THE RESTR AREA (OR CLOSE) SO I CLBED TO 3100 FT. I LATER CALLED LESBURG FSS, THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF RESTR AREA. I ALSO CALLED MANASSAS TWR. THEY STATED THAT THE RESTR AREA WAS A SPECIAL RESTR AREA. THE RESTR AREA SHOULD BE OFFICIALLY ACTIVATED AND FSS ALLOWED TO BRIEF ON IT.
