Narrative:
Cleared to taxi to runway 9 but hold short of runway 4L. Then cleared across runway 4L but short of runway 9. Once you cross runway 4L there isn't a lot of room for numerous aircraft to queue up and hold short of runway 9. Tower cleared us into position on runway 9, then an unknown small aircraft behind us complained about our jet blast. I believe the following factors contributed: 1) my use of too much power (would have helped if I somehow would have known the small aircraft was there though I probably should always assume a small aircraft may be there). 2) the taxiway (taxiway south, I think) is rough with pot holes and ridges. We were in a small trough which took slightly higher than usual breakaway power. 3) the area between runway 4L and the approach end of runway 9 is short and the aircraft behind us probably taxied a tad too close behind us to clear runway 4L.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CREW IN AN ACR TWIN JET WERE GIVEN RWY 9 FOR DEP AND TAXIED TO A POS BTWN RWY 4L AND RWY 9 VIA TXWY S AT BOS ARPT. WHEN CLRNC WAS GIVEN INTO POS ON RWY 9, A SMALL ACFT, APPARENTLY HOLDING BEHIND THE TWIN JET, COMPLAINED OF JET BLAST.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 9 BUT HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4L. THEN CLRED ACROSS RWY 4L BUT SHORT OF RWY 9. ONCE YOU CROSS RWY 4L THERE ISN'T A LOT OF ROOM FOR NUMEROUS ACFT TO QUEUE UP AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 9. TWR CLRED US INTO POS ON RWY 9, THEN AN UNKNOWN SMALL ACFT BEHIND US COMPLAINED ABOUT OUR JET BLAST. I BELIEVE THE FOLLOWING FACTORS CONTRIBUTED: 1) MY USE OF TOO MUCH PWR (WOULD HAVE HELPED IF I SOMEHOW WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE SMALL ACFT WAS THERE THOUGH I PROBABLY SHOULD ALWAYS ASSUME A SMALL ACFT MAY BE THERE). 2) THE TXWY (TXWY S, I THINK) IS ROUGH WITH POT HOLES AND RIDGES. WE WERE IN A SMALL TROUGH WHICH TOOK SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN USUAL BREAKAWAY PWR. 3) THE AREA BTWN RWY 4L AND THE APCH END OF RWY 9 IS SHORT AND THE ACFT BEHIND US PROBABLY TAXIED A TAD TOO CLOSE BEHIND US TO CLR RWY 4L.
