Narrative:
I departed pwk with a student, practiced maneuvers nnw of the airport and upon calling the tower to return, I was advised he was not receiving my transponder. This flight was my first as a CFI in a helicopter and in the anticipation, I forgot to turn it on. This was also my second time in this particular helicopter which is equipped with a radio master and I did not double check the transponder. On subsequent flts this has become a double check item.
