Narrative:
On aug/xa/98 I was doing an overnight check on aircraft xyz, an F100. I found the right main landing gear downlock actuator leaking. I went to our (air carrier) rotable book. These books are for us to find the part number easier and faster. I looked up the fleet type which is 'Y'. Then I looked for the air traffic area chapter which is bb. Looking down through the numbers, I came to a right main landing gear downlock actuator. The number was yxyx. Then I verified the effectivity, the effectivity was a number 'Y' telling me the actuator is good to use on a fokker F100. We installed the actuator, swung the gear, leak checked -- everything checked good per the maintenance manual. The aircraft left ZZZ, was stopped in WWW. The actuator had to be changed because it was for a fokker F28 1000 and 4000 series aircraft. I am concerned why the rotable books were not updated with a revision date of may/xa/98, why the svcable tag (xx) did not specify F28 only, and why air carrier still has svcable F28 parts in stock when air carrier retired its F28 fleet.

Title: A FOKKER 100 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT PART INSTALLED IN THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR DOWNLOCK ACTUATOR POS CAUSED BY A PARTS CATALOG DEFICIENCY.
Narrative: ON AUG/XA/98 I WAS DOING AN OVERNIGHT CHK ON ACFT XYZ, AN F100. I FOUND THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR DOWNLOCK ACTUATOR LEAKING. I WENT TO OUR (ACR) ROTABLE BOOK. THESE BOOKS ARE FOR US TO FIND THE PART NUMBER EASIER AND FASTER. I LOOKED UP THE FLEET TYPE WHICH IS 'Y'. THEN I LOOKED FOR THE ATA CHAPTER WHICH IS BB. LOOKING DOWN THROUGH THE NUMBERS, I CAME TO A R MAIN LNDG GEAR DOWNLOCK ACTUATOR. THE NUMBER WAS YXYX. THEN I VERIFIED THE EFFECTIVITY, THE EFFECTIVITY WAS A NUMBER 'Y' TELLING ME THE ACTUATOR IS GOOD TO USE ON A FOKKER F100. WE INSTALLED THE ACTUATOR, SWUNG THE GEAR, LEAK CHKED -- EVERYTHING CHKED GOOD PER THE MAINT MANUAL. THE ACFT LEFT ZZZ, WAS STOPPED IN WWW. THE ACTUATOR HAD TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE IT WAS FOR A FOKKER F28 1000 AND 4000 SERIES ACFT. I AM CONCERNED WHY THE ROTABLE BOOKS WERE NOT UPDATED WITH A REVISION DATE OF MAY/XA/98, WHY THE SVCABLE TAG (XX) DID NOT SPECIFY F28 ONLY, AND WHY ACR STILL HAS SVCABLE F28 PARTS IN STOCK WHEN ACR RETIRED ITS F28 FLEET.
