Takeoff atl runway 9L, at vr speed, APU fire warning indication. At a safe altitude, performed emergency and abnormal checklist. Required return and possible passenger evacuate/evacuation. Declared emergency with ZTL, return to atl runway 9L, longest runway. Landed overweight, cleared runway. Emergency equipment checked aircraft and APU area for fire, no indication of fire. Taxi to gate for maintenance. Problem area for atl airport, no separate VHF frequency for aircraft to emergency equipment, must go through active ground control frequency.
