Narrative:
We were with ZBW at 17000 ft MSL and descended to 11000 ft. Assigned heading 070 degrees, then left turn to 010 degrees, and then assigned a new frequency. After crossing the dpk 2 arrival on 010 degree heading, the new controller came on agitatedly saying 'air carrier XXX you are 5 mi off track in jfk airspace. Your clearance was to intercept the dpk 2 arrival, turn right now direct mad.' first officer replied that we were proceeding direct mad but that we had been on an assigned heading of 010 degrees, but no intercept clearance. Controller did not reply and moved on to other aircraft. We, my first officer and I, are positive we were not issued an intercept clearance. We did not read back such a clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG ACFT. DURING A FREQ XFER, WITH THE ACFT ON A VECTOR, THE CTLR DID NOT GIVE THE CREW CLRNC TO INTERCEPT THE STAR ARR RADIAL. THIS RESULTED IN THE ACFT PENETRATING ANOTHER CTR'S AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE WERE WITH ZBW AT 17000 FT MSL AND DSNDED TO 11000 FT. ASSIGNED HDG 070 DEGS, THEN L TURN TO 010 DEGS, AND THEN ASSIGNED A NEW FREQ. AFTER XING THE DPK 2 ARR ON 010 DEG HDG, THE NEW CTLR CAME ON AGITATEDLY SAYING 'ACR XXX YOU ARE 5 MI OFF TRACK IN JFK AIRSPACE. YOUR CLRNC WAS TO INTERCEPT THE DPK 2 ARR, TURN R NOW DIRECT MAD.' FO REPLIED THAT WE WERE PROCEEDING DIRECT MAD BUT THAT WE HAD BEEN ON AN ASSIGNED HDG OF 010 DEGS, BUT NO INTERCEPT CLRNC. CTLR DID NOT REPLY AND MOVED ON TO OTHER ACFT. WE, MY FO AND I, ARE POSITIVE WE WERE NOT ISSUED AN INTERCEPT CLRNC. WE DID NOT READ BACK SUCH A CLRNC.
