Narrative:
On sep/xa/98 flight XXX air carrier from lax to sea made unscheduled landing in klamath falls, or. Approximately XA40 flight attendants reported the smell of smoke in cabin. Captain asked them to verify and make sure. After verification, captain elected to make unscheduled emergency landing in klamath falls, or. After stopping on runway, the crew opened door and observed no smoke. The crew elected not to emergency egress due to possible injuries. Taxied to ramp and deplaned normally. Aircraft was inspected by maintenance and all system checked and released with no discrepancies.

Title: MD80 CREW DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT AFTER THE FLT ATTENDANT TOLD THEM THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE CABIN.
Narrative: ON SEP/XA/98 FLT XXX ACR FROM LAX TO SEA MADE UNSCHEDULED LNDG IN KLAMATH FALLS, OR. APPROX XA40 FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED THE SMELL OF SMOKE IN CABIN. CAPT ASKED THEM TO VERIFY AND MAKE SURE. AFTER VERIFICATION, CAPT ELECTED TO MAKE UNSCHEDULED EMER LNDG IN KLAMATH FALLS, OR. AFTER STOPPING ON RWY, THE CREW OPENED DOOR AND OBSERVED NO SMOKE.
