Narrative:
After landing runway 24R at lax and being cleared across runway 24L, we contacted ground (121.65). Ground issued taxi instruction via taxiway east for the gate behind a brasilia. As we proceeded to the gate, looking for the brasilia to follow, we heard the brasilia say he would hold for us, since we apparently cut him off. I have no way of knowing how fast the brasilia was taxiing, but he was obviously behind and not in front of me, which is where we were looking. We did look to the right and as far behind us as we could, but did not see him. After apologies were made, we proceeded to the gate. I should have asked ground where the brasilia was and not assumed he was in front, and the controller could have said 'from right to left' as is quite often said, are 2 actions that would have helped.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B737 WERE INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL TO FOLLOW BRASILIA WHEN TAXIING TO THE GATE AFTER LNDG. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE OTHER ACFT WOULD BE COMING FROM THE QUARTERING REAR AND THEREFORE INADVERTENTLY WENT IN FRONT OF THE BRASILIA CAUSING IT TO ABRUPTLY STOP. AFTER THE RPTRS LEARNED THAT THEY HAD CUT THEM OFF, THEY SAID SORRY AND TAXIED TO GATE.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG RWY 24R AT LAX AND BEING CLRED ACROSS RWY 24L, WE CONTACTED GND (121.65). GND ISSUED TAXI INSTRUCTION VIA TXWY E FOR THE GATE BEHIND A BRASILIA. WE DID LOOK TO THE R AND AS FAR BEHIND US AS WE COULD, BUT DID NOT SEE HIM. AFTER APOLOGIES WERE MADE, WE PROCEEDED TO THE GATE. I SHOULD HAVE ASKED GND WHERE THE BRASILIA WAS AND NOT ASSUMED HE WAS IN FRONT, AND THE CTLR COULD HAVE SAID 'FROM R TO L' AS IS QUITE OFTEN SAID, ARE 2 ACTIONS THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED.
