Narrative:
I overlooked an airworthiness directive inspection required on janitrol heater on aircraft. Inspection due at 5871.2, listed as item #5 down aircraft maintenance status report. Status report date sep/wed/98, date of occurrence was sep/sun/98. New status report overdue. I assumed that airworthiness directive compliance had been met since aircraft had recent 100 hour inspection. As items are met they move up to top of list, however, since the only list available to me was sep/sun/98, status report it did not occur to me that it was due since it was still 5 lines down on the list (below 100 hour inspection). I realize that as PIC I am responsible for this oversight, however, it would be easier to catch such discrepancies if I had current status report. Oversight was found by fellow pilot who also overflew this airworthiness directive inspection. I will certainly be more diligent in the future regarding items on status report. I will utilize a current status report and verify with maintenance department.

Title: PA41 PLT OVERFLIES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE REQUIREMENT IN OTZ AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I OVERLOOKED AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE INSPECTION REQUIRED ON JANITROL HEATER ON ACFT. INSPECTION DUE AT 5871.2, LISTED AS ITEM #5 DOWN ACFT MAINT STATUS RPT. STATUS RPT DATE SEP/WED/98, DATE OF OCCURRENCE WAS SEP/SUN/98. NEW STATUS RPT OVERDUE. I ASSUMED THAT AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE COMPLIANCE HAD BEEN MET SINCE ACFT HAD RECENT 100 HR INSPECTION. AS ITEMS ARE MET THEY MOVE UP TO TOP OF LIST, HOWEVER, SINCE THE ONLY LIST AVAILABLE TO ME WAS SEP/SUN/98, STATUS RPT IT DID NOT OCCUR TO ME THAT IT WAS DUE SINCE IT WAS STILL 5 LINES DOWN ON THE LIST (BELOW 100 HR INSPECTION). I REALIZE THAT AS PIC I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS OVERSIGHT, HOWEVER, IT WOULD BE EASIER TO CATCH SUCH DISCREPANCIES IF I HAD CURRENT STATUS RPT. OVERSIGHT WAS FOUND BY FELLOW PLT WHO ALSO OVERFLEW THIS AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE INSPECTION. I WILL CERTAINLY BE MORE DILIGENT IN THE FUTURE REGARDING ITEMS ON STATUS RPT. I WILL UTILIZE A CURRENT STATUS RPT AND VERIFY WITH MAINT DEPT.
