Narrative:

My partner and I were assigned to complete a brake change on a B727 main gear (#4 position). The brake was previously removed by prior shift and the main gear strut door was in the service position (up). We installed the brake and tire and lowered the strut door in accordance to the maintenance manual. Unbeknownst to us, someone on prior shift removed and reinstalled the strut door link (banana link) incorrectly. The link was positioned under the gear drag brace instead of above it. The problem was caused by the person on prior shift not following the correct maintenance procedures.
