Narrative:
Uneventful takeoff from fsd. Departure assigned 270 degree heading and 6000 ft MSL. Traffic call 1 O'clock at 7000 ft sebound. Traffic (a C310 call sign aircraft Y) stated he had our B727 in sight. Departure advised him to maintain visual separation, of which he acknowledged. We were given a climb to 10000 ft and were not asked if we had the traffic in sight (which we did not at this time). We received a TCASII RA just as the first officer and myself acquired the traffic which was at our 12:30 position, wings level on a collision course (ie, not moving in the windscreen)! Fortunately, the PF (captain) had obeyed the TCASII advisory and also initiated a left bank. Simultaneously, we heard the C310 (aircraft Y) request a left turn! The only thing I could surmise was the C310 PF didn't think he could maneuver to avoid us and he was on a vector.

Title: B727 CREW DEPARTING FSD ISSUED TFC, A C310 ON VECTOR AT 7000 FT. C310 RPTED B727 IN SIGHT AND INSTRUCTED TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION.
Narrative: UNEVENTFUL TKOF FROM FSD. DEP ASSIGNED 270 DEG HDG AND 6000 FT MSL. TFC CALL 1 O'CLOCK AT 7000 FT SEBOUND. TFC (A C310 CALL SIGN ACFT Y) STATED HE HAD OUR B727 IN SIGHT. DEP ADVISED HIM TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION, OF WHICH HE ACKNOWLEDGED. WE WERE GIVEN A CLB TO 10000 FT AND WERE NOT ASKED IF WE HAD THE TFC IN SIGHT (WHICH WE DID NOT AT THIS TIME). WE RECEIVED A TCASII RA JUST AS THE FO AND MYSELF ACQUIRED THE TFC WHICH WAS AT OUR 12:30 POS, WINGS LEVEL ON A COLLISION COURSE (IE, NOT MOVING IN THE WINDSCREEN)! FORTUNATELY, THE PF (CAPT) HAD OBEYED THE TCASII ADVISORY AND ALSO INITIATED A L BANK. SIMULTANEOUSLY, WE HEARD THE C310 (ACFT Y) REQUEST A L TURN! THE ONLY THING I COULD SURMISE WAS THE C310 PF DIDN'T THINK HE COULD MANEUVER TO AVOID US AND HE WAS ON A VECTOR.
