Narrative:

Aircraft was taxied across ramp and in to gate area at stl. I called captain's attention to catering truck on right side of the aircraft. The marshaller motioned us forward. As I looked at the right wing, a wing walker gave the thumbs up signal. It looked like only 2 ft clearance then less. I told the captain to stop and he did so immediately and set the parking brake. It appeared from the cockpit that no contact was made with the truck. The truck was moved and during that time the aircraft shook as the truck rubbed against the wingtip. There were yellow lines marking the sterile area, but they did not look like the white lines at our other stations. The truck should never have been parked inside the line at this tight gate. We should never taxi in (even with marshaller) if truck inside lines. We should maintain more than '2 ft' clearance always.
