Narrative:
Slightly unusual smell while breakfast was cooking. We had about 15 kosher meals in the oven during climb. The #1 flight attendant and myself on the jump seat facing the oven noticed smoke in the sunlight coming through the window in entry door. #1 flight attendant turned the oven off, felt door and cracked it slightly. No sign of fire. We assumed it was an oven spill. Within 3 mins the cockpit called and declared an emergency. We told the captain we suspected the oven contents had caused the smoke we had seen. I concur with the other 2 flight attendants that the large number of kosher meals had in some way created the steamy smoke, possibly the wrapping and labeling adhesive? I appreciate the captain's caution and decision to declare an emergency. We had over 12 small children on board and only window exits in coach.
