Narrative:
While making the lakes 3 departure out of mci, and after passing the anx VOR, I put the outbound radial of the previous VOR (mkc 109 degrees) in the window instead of the correct radial out of anx. I did not pick up on this mistake, and the center called and said we were right of course. I looked at the departure plate, but unfortunately looked at the mkc radial again. I could not understand the center's concern as the CDI was centered. When center again told us we were right of course, I checked the departure again. This time I realized my error. I had mentally accepted the wrong radial. When I checked it the first time, I again accepted the radial as correct. The third time I looked much more aggressively and found the error.
