Narrative:
A passenger seated at the window exit alerted another flight attendant to a burning smell. She then called the cockpit. The captain came back to check. He then returned to the cockpit and announced that we would be turning around and landing in either mcallen or laredo. We landed in mcallen. We were met by fire and rescue. No evacuate/evacuation was necessary. The plane was taken OTS.

Title: PAX ON AN MD80 NOTIFIED THE FLT ATTENDANT OF A BURNING SMELL. CAPT CHKED THE AREA THEN ANNOUNCED THEY WOULD DIVERT AND LAND THE ACFT.
Narrative: A PAX SEATED AT THE WINDOW EXIT ALERTED ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT TO A BURNING SMELL. SHE THEN CALLED THE COCKPIT. THE CAPT CAME BACK TO CHK. HE THEN RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT AND ANNOUNCED THAT WE WOULD BE TURNING AROUND AND LNDG IN EITHER MCALLEN OR LAREDO. WE LANDED IN MCALLEN. WE WERE MET BY FIRE AND RESCUE. NO EVAC WAS NECESSARY. THE PLANE WAS TAKEN OTS.
