Narrative:

Once we were cleared for the localizer/back course approach and established, we (the crew) misidented a stepdown fix and began our descent to MDA approximately 4 mi early. In our descent, we noticed a tower in our path and we deviated around the tower and concluded the approach. What the crew learned from this is to carefully identify all stepdown fixes and thoroughly brief the approach.
