Narrative:

A poorly worded taxi note on the airport diagram page 10-9 led to a crew discussion about the use of the ramp at the departure end of runway 5R at providence. We consulted ground control about its use, at which point we were misled into using that portion of the ramp to taxi. Later investigation revealed that the ramp is limited to aircraft with wing span and weight restrs which our aircraft exceeded. The taxi was completed without incident. Signage and a more clearly marked taxi diagram, and a ground control more knowledgeable about the restr would help to avoid this situation, especially in low visibility operations.

Title: ACR CREW TAXIES ONTO RAMP RESTR BY TAXI NOTE AT PVD.

Narrative: A POORLY WORDED TAXI NOTE ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM PAGE 10-9 LED TO A CREW DISCUSSION ABOUT THE USE OF THE RAMP AT THE DEP END OF RWY 5R AT PROVIDENCE. WE CONSULTED GND CTL ABOUT ITS USE, AT WHICH POINT WE WERE MISLED INTO USING THAT PORTION OF THE RAMP TO TAXI. LATER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE RAMP IS LIMITED TO ACFT WITH WING SPAN AND WT RESTRS WHICH OUR ACFT EXCEEDED. THE TAXI WAS COMPLETED WITHOUT INCIDENT. SIGNAGE AND A MORE CLRLY MARKED TAXI DIAGRAM, AND A GND CTL MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE RESTR WOULD HELP TO AVOID THIS SIT, ESPECIALLY IN LOW VISIBILITY OPS.
