Narrative:
Flight xyz was cleared to climb to 17000 ft while outbound on the hugo 5 robax departure from clt. After climbing out of the tops at 14000 ft MSL the left engine failed and the climb rate stopped with loss of airspeed while crew secured engine. We notified ATC of engine failure after 15 seconds and then told them we needed lower. We squawked 7700, landed in clt. I was told we lost separation on another aircraft. 4.6 SM at 600 ft we did get a TA but not a TCASII RA. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the engine was torn down by maintenance and inspection revealed the bull gear in the pwrplant gear box failed. The reporter said the loss of separation was reported to them by ATC but they never had a visual sighting but did have a TA warning on TCASII.

Title: A JETSTREAM 3100 IN CLB AT 14000 FT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #1 ENG FAILURE CAUSED BY THE MAIN GEAR BOX MALFUNCTION. REDUCED RATE OF CLB PWR CAUSED A LOSS OF SEPARATION.
Narrative: FLT XYZ WAS CLRED TO CLB TO 17000 FT WHILE OUTBOUND ON THE HUGO 5 ROBAX DEP FROM CLT. AFTER CLBING OUT OF THE TOPS AT 14000 FT MSL THE L ENG FAILED AND THE CLB RATE STOPPED WITH LOSS OF AIRSPD WHILE CREW SECURED ENG. WE NOTIFIED ATC OF ENG FAILURE AFTER 15 SECONDS AND THEN TOLD THEM WE NEEDED LOWER. WE SQUAWKED 7700, LANDED IN CLT. I WAS TOLD WE LOST SEPARATION ON ANOTHER ACFT. 4.6 SM AT 600 FT WE DID GET A TA BUT NOT A TCASII RA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ENG WAS TORN DOWN BY MAINT AND INSPECTION REVEALED THE BULL GEAR IN THE PWRPLANT GEAR BOX FAILED. THE RPTR SAID THE LOSS OF SEPARATION WAS RPTED TO THEM BY ATC BUT THEY NEVER HAD A VISUAL SIGHTING BUT DID HAVE A TA WARNING ON TCASII.
