Narrative:

Climbing out of stp, cleared to 6000 ft. Autoplt on. Autoplt did not capture the final altitude of 6000 ft. I noticed that the capture annunciator did not illuminate 200 ft prior to the assigned altitude. Vertical speed was 2000 FPM. Due to passenger comfort, I overshot the altitude by 300 ft. I corrected the altitude as soon as possible. The departure controller verified leveling at 6000 ft and the copilot responded that we were correcting.
