Narrative:
Holding short of runway 24L at lax, we were given the clearance, 'caution wake turbulence, departing B747' and then gave us what we understood to be a takeoff clearance. We taxied onto runway 24L and began our takeoff. As I was pushing the power levers forward, we noticed an airplane crossing the runway downfield. We aborted the takeoff. Right after that, the tower told us to 'cancel takeoff clearance.' the position and hold clearance given by tower should not have included the wake turbulence call. Instead, 'traffic crossing downfield, taxi into position and hold.' I believe there is a need to standardize the position and hold and takeoff clrncs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A BRITISH BA32 THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE CLRED FOR TKOF AND STARTED THE TKOF ROLL ONLY TO OBSERVE A DC10 TAXIING ACROSS THE RWY DOWNFIELD AND IMMEDIATELY ABORTED THE TKOF. ABOUT THE SAME TIME, TWR CALLED TO CANCEL THEIR TKOF CLRNC WHICH ACCORDING TO THE TWR HAD NEVER BEEN GIVEN.
Narrative: HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 24L AT LAX, WE WERE GIVEN THE CLRNC, 'CAUTION WAKE TURB, DEPARTING B747' AND THEN GAVE US WHAT WE UNDERSTOOD TO BE A TKOF CLRNC. WE TAXIED ONTO RWY 24L AND BEGAN OUR TKOF. AS I WAS PUSHING THE PWR LEVERS FORWARD, WE NOTICED AN AIRPLANE XING THE RWY DOWNFIELD. WE ABORTED THE TKOF. RIGHT AFTER THAT, THE TWR TOLD US TO 'CANCEL TKOF CLRNC.' THE POS AND HOLD CLRNC GIVEN BY TWR SHOULD NOT HAVE INCLUDED THE WAKE TURB CALL. INSTEAD, 'TFC XING DOWNFIELD, TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD.' I BELIEVE THERE IS A NEED TO STANDARDIZE THE POS AND HOLD AND TKOF CLRNCS.
