Narrative:
Had busy preflight preparations -- minor maintenance, big load, pressing schedule. Called for taxi and ground controller cleared us to taxi but hold short of parallel taxiway. During taxi, the first officer got revisions and we did the checklist. We then discussed a minor deferred maintenance item. While we did this, I cleared left and right and as there was no one coming, I taxied onto the parallel taxiway! The ground controller told us we had been instructed to hold short but proceed anyway and contact tower. Nothing unsafe had occurred and perhaps the controller could have been more up to speed. But, we had ignored the clearance we were issued. We cannot let events distract us from clearance requirements.

Narrative: HAD BUSY PREFLT PREPARATIONS -- MINOR MAINT, BIG LOAD, PRESSING SCHEDULE. CALLED FOR TAXI AND GND CTLR CLRED US TO TAXI BUT HOLD SHORT OF PARALLEL TXWY. DURING TAXI, THE FO GOT REVISIONS AND WE DID THE CHKLIST. WE THEN DISCUSSED A MINOR DEFERRED MAINT ITEM. WHILE WE DID THIS, I CLRED L AND R AND AS THERE WAS NO ONE COMING, I TAXIED ONTO THE PARALLEL TXWY! THE GND CTLR TOLD US WE HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT BUT PROCEED ANYWAY AND CONTACT TWR. NOTHING UNSAFE HAD OCCURRED AND PERHAPS THE CTLR COULD HAVE BEEN MORE UP TO SPD. BUT, WE HAD IGNORED THE CLRNC WE WERE ISSUED. WE CANNOT LET EVENTS DISTRACT US FROM CLRNC REQUIREMENTS.
