Narrative:
Immediately after takeoff we noticed that the red landing gear disagreement lights were illuminated. The first officer was the PF. We notified ATC and were assigned vectors at 4000 ft MSL while we worked on our problem. We contacted maintenance and they suggested that we cycle the gear handle. This had no effect! Since we had an unsafe gear indication and no green gear lights, we decided to manually extend the gear. I took the controls and had the first officer read the QRH section on manual gear extension. We got a positive (3 green) gear indication followed by a 'hydraulic fluid low' caution annunciator. I apologized to the passenger and briefed them for landing. I had the first officer request the fire truck and gear pinning once we stopped on the runway. The landing was uneventful and after a brief shutdown to pin the gear, we started up and taxied to the gate.
