Narrative:
In-flight from XXX to ZZZ, 2 discrepancies were written up. One was a repeat item. The first item was the #1 start valve open light on in-flight (repeat item), and the other was #1 engine overheat light came on in-flight. I arrived in ZZZ approximately XA40. Talked to the flight crew and started working on the #1 engine start valve light problem until about XH00. The #1 engine overheat detection was an MEL item, so I called the maintenance controller. I was given the MEL and control numbers. I quickly read the MEL procedures and determined that the #1 norm/fire switch on the fire control panel should be placed in the fire position. While in-flight from ZZZ to YYY and at climb power, the #1 engine fire warning flickered then the throttles were pulled back to idle for the remainder of the flight. The fire switch should've been left in the normal position.

Title: A B737-200 WAS RELEASED FOR SVC WITH THE #1 ENG OVERHEAT WARNING SYS DEFERRED BUT THE LOOP SELECTOR SWITCH WAS POSITIONED IMPROPERLY IN CONFLICT WITH THE MEL.
Narrative: INFLT FROM XXX TO ZZZ, 2 DISCREPANCIES WERE WRITTEN UP. ONE WAS A REPEAT ITEM.
