Narrative:
Aircraft assigned vector to join airway north of orl. Captain was PF. FMS was programmed accordingly but forgot to arm navigation. Aircraft went through airway and was queried by center before flight crew noticed it. Contributing factor: map display was set on long range.

Title: CAPT OF AN MD88 FORGOT TO ARM THE NAV MODE OF THE FMS WHILE ON A DEP VECTOR CAUSING FLYING THROUGH THEIR FLT PLANNED AIRWAY. ARTCC RADAR CTLR INTERVENED AND VECTORED HIM BACK ON THE INTENDED AIRWAY.
Narrative: ACFT ASSIGNED VECTOR TO JOIN AIRWAY N OF ORL. CAPT WAS PF. FMS WAS PROGRAMMED ACCORDINGLY BUT FORGOT TO ARM NAV. ACFT WENT THROUGH AIRWAY AND WAS QUERIED BY CTR BEFORE FLC NOTICED IT. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR: MAP DISPLAY WAS SET ON LONG RANGE.
