Narrative:

Given visual approach to sea runway 16L with a propeller aircraft making visual approach to the parallel runway 16R. He was joining the final ahead of us and we both had each other in sight. Neither aircraft was told to follow the other. He was faster and pulled away from us but approach asked us to keep our speed up. We caught up to the propeller plane and passed him on short final even though we had slowed to our minimum approach speed. The lateral spacing was minimal and in retrospect, I should have either made an s-turn to avoid the overtake or gone around since the propeller plane could not see us as we began to pass him from behind.

Title: CAPT OF AN MD SUPER 80 QUESTIONED THE SAFE SEPARATION DURING TWR ASSIGNED VISUAL APCH TO A PROP ACFT AHEAD ON A PARALLEL RWY VISUAL APCH WHEN THE 2 RWYS HAD CLOSE LATERAL SEPARATION. THE RPTR'S ACFT OVERTOOK THE PROP ACFT ON SHORT FINAL AND PASSED LATERALLY DURING LNDG.

Narrative: GIVEN VISUAL APCH TO SEA RWY 16L WITH A PROP ACFT MAKING VISUAL APCH TO THE PARALLEL RWY 16R. HE WAS JOINING THE FINAL AHEAD OF US AND WE BOTH HAD EACH OTHER IN SIGHT. NEITHER ACFT WAS TOLD TO FOLLOW THE OTHER. HE WAS FASTER AND PULLED AWAY FROM US BUT APCH ASKED US TO KEEP OUR SPD UP. WE CAUGHT UP TO THE PROP PLANE AND PASSED HIM ON SHORT FINAL EVEN THOUGH WE HAD SLOWED TO OUR MINIMUM APCH SPD. THE LATERAL SPACING WAS MINIMAL AND IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE EITHER MADE AN S-TURN TO AVOID THE OVERTAKE OR GONE AROUND SINCE THE PROP PLANE COULD NOT SEE US AS WE BEGAN TO PASS HIM FROM BEHIND.
