Narrative:
On the descent into okc, approach control warned of possible windshear. Approach also advised that a previous B737 had reported moderate to severe turbulence on base leg. We were receiving vectors for an ILS to runway 17L in okc. Just prior to base, we were advised that the airport was being turned around and we were issued a left turn to a south heading for a downwind to runway 35R. Turning through 260 degree heading we encountered severe turbulence. We continued the turn to an east heading and escaped the shear. Prior to entering the turbulence the flight was in smooth conditions. My inaction of continuing an approach with the report of severe turbulence by a B737 led to the encounter.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LTT COMMUTER TURBOPROP ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB ON APCH TO OKC.
Narrative: ON THE DSCNT INTO OKC, APCH CTL WARNED OF POSSIBLE WINDSHEAR. APCH ALSO ADVISED THAT A PREVIOUS B737 HAD RPTED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB ON BASE LEG. WE WERE RECEIVING VECTORS FOR AN ILS TO RWY 17L IN OKC. JUST PRIOR TO BASE, WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE ARPT WAS BEING TURNED AROUND AND WE WERE ISSUED A L TURN TO A S HDG FOR A DOWNWIND TO RWY 35R. TURNING THROUGH 260 DEG HDG WE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB. WE CONTINUED THE TURN TO AN E HDG AND ESCAPED THE SHEAR. PRIOR TO ENTERING THE TURB THE FLT WAS IN SMOOTH CONDITIONS. MY INACTION OF CONTINUING AN APCH WITH THE RPT OF SEVERE TURB BY A B737 LED TO THE ENCOUNTER.
