Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
Just prior to turning into midfield right downwind runway 36 another plane announced a close location on same downwind. Another pilot with me could not locate plane. Although I announced my location at 7.6 NM from airport, 3.6 mi from airport midfield entry right downwind, right downwind, right base and final, the other plane only announced location less than 1 mi north entry to right downwind runway 36. No further reports. This produced concern about his location. Incident occurred immediately after VFR touchdown, started checklist but was distracted then rechked the flaps to make sure they were up, plane settled to gear doors with very short slide. Plane removed from runway -- no injuries, or property damage except to plane. Cause: distrs, rushed checklist on touch and go. (This concluded 1 hour of practicing IFR approachs to initial approach waypoints.)

Title: A BE36 PVT PLT RETRACTS HIS GEAR ON THE RWY WHILE PRACTICING TOUCH AND GOES AT ICT, KS.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO TURNING INTO MIDFIELD R DOWNWIND RWY 36 ANOTHER PLANE ANNOUNCED A CLOSE LOCATION ON SAME DOWNWIND. ANOTHER PLT WITH ME COULD NOT LOCATE PLANE. ALTHOUGH I ANNOUNCED MY LOCATION AT 7.6 NM FROM ARPT, 3.6 MI FROM ARPT MIDFIELD ENTRY R DOWNWIND, R DOWNWIND, R BASE AND FINAL, THE OTHER PLANE ONLY ANNOUNCED LOCATION LESS THAN 1 MI N ENTRY TO R DOWNWIND RWY 36. NO FURTHER RPTS. THIS PRODUCED CONCERN ABOUT HIS LOCATION. INCIDENT OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER VFR TOUCHDOWN, STARTED CHKLIST BUT WAS DISTRACTED THEN RECHKED THE FLAPS TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE UP, PLANE SETTLED TO GEAR DOORS WITH VERY SHORT SLIDE. PLANE REMOVED FROM RWY -- NO INJURIES, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE EXCEPT TO PLANE. CAUSE: DISTRS, RUSHED CHKLIST ON TOUCH AND GO. (THIS CONCLUDED 1 HR OF PRACTICING IFR APCHS TO INITIAL APCH WAYPOINTS.)
