Narrative:
While on base leg of visual approach to runway 12 at la romana international, dominican republic (mdlr) we saw a kite nearly on our flight path. We maintained visual contact as we turned final with the kite co-altitude and about 1500 ft off our port wing. Later, on final, there was a second kite which was less of a factor. We reported the kite to tower who sent airport security into the town to fix the problem.
