Narrative:
Dispatcher sent message -- 2000 pounds fuel for alternate. I called him and was told he was sure we could remove the alternate later. He never actually said to add fuel. I had a weight and balance with our present fuel load. Assumed problem with weight, so I planned that it would be tight on fuel. Taxiing out, we failed to notice a new message with weight and balance -- increased 2000 pounds. Miscom with 2 dispatchers and myself (shift change) caused errors. Arrived with 500 pounds extra fuel. Supplemental information from acn 423280: flight was released with gate fuel of 36825 pounds required and on board. A note in the remarks section of flight release stated 'request top-off to 38300 pounds.' after captain conferred with the dispatcher, it was decided to leave fuel load at 36825 pounds.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED WITH A 36825 FUEL LOAD WITH THE CONCURRENCE OF THE CAPT AND THE DISPATCHER PRIOR TO DEP. ON TAXI OUT, AN AMENDED RELEASE WAS SENT BY A SECOND DISPATCHER WITH A 2000 LB UPLOAD.
Narrative: DISPATCHER SENT MESSAGE -- 2000 LBS FUEL FOR ALTERNATE. I CALLED HIM AND WAS TOLD HE WAS SURE WE COULD REMOVE THE ALTERNATE LATER. HE NEVER ACTUALLY SAID TO ADD FUEL. I HAD A WT AND BAL WITH OUR PRESENT FUEL LOAD. ASSUMED PROB WITH WT, SO I PLANNED THAT IT WOULD BE TIGHT ON FUEL. TAXIING OUT, WE FAILED TO NOTICE A NEW MESSAGE WITH WT AND BAL -- INCREASED 2000 LBS. MISCOM WITH 2 DISPATCHERS AND MYSELF (SHIFT CHANGE) CAUSED ERRORS. ARRIVED WITH 500 LBS EXTRA FUEL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 423280: FLT WAS RELEASED WITH GATE FUEL OF 36825 LBS REQUIRED AND ON BOARD. A NOTE IN THE REMARKS SECTION OF FLT RELEASE STATED 'REQUEST TOP-OFF TO 38300 LBS.' AFTER CAPT CONFERRED WITH THE DISPATCHER, IT WAS DECIDED TO LEAVE FUEL LOAD AT 36825 LBS.
