Narrative:
Taxi out for takeoff runway 4 at lga. Runway 4 used for arrs as well. After we were asked if we were told to hold short of the ILS hold line for runway 4 (we held short of runway 4 at the B4 hold line), I noticed on the ATIS received on the ACARS that when takeoffs and lndgs are in progress on runway 4, aircraft are to use the ILS hold line. We were distraction in the cockpit by a cycling status message we were receiving, and forgot about holding at the ILS hold line and used the B4 hold line instead. Perhaps it would be better to issue hold short of active runway instructions by direct radio contact than trust those type of instructions to ATIS or NOTAM instructions.
