Narrative:
Captain was in the process of briefing runway 32L ord. Chicago had been in flow control of the afternoon because of high winds. Present wind 320 degrees 20 KTS gusting to 28 KTS. The latest ATIS showed landing runway 27L ord and I informed the captain. They had been given a descent to FL240. Shortly after giving the ATIS I heard the altitude alert note. Captain and first officer reacted to stop ascent and continued descent to FL240. Supplemental information from acn 425162: I took my eyes off the airplane. I distracted the copilot by asking him to review the runway 27L approach. We heard the altitude warning note and corrected immediately. TCASII showed no conflicts. ATC did not bring altitude to my attention. Descent was initiated to FL240. No further problems. Altitude was between 250 ft and 500 ft.
