Narrative:
On the midway 4 departure with a clearance to climb to 3000 ft, I inadvertently climbed through 3000 ft to approximately 3400 ft. I was distraction at the time looking outside the aircraft to see if we were building ice. When I looked up, we had passed 3000 ft, and departure was issuing a climb to FL230. No conflict was reported to me. Since the runway was contaminated, I had left the gear down in the initial climb to clear the snow. On retraction, the gear doors did not fully close initially, and I was distraction by this as well, just at the time I would have been decreasing my climb rate for leveloff. I checked the left wing to see if a heavy accumulation of ice might have affected gear retraction. When I returned to the instruments, I had exceeded 3000 ft, but at that moment we were cleared to FL230, gear doors showed closed, and the remainder of the flight was normal.

Title: A LEAR 35, DEPARTING MDW WITH SNOW AND ICE ON RWY, EXPERIENCED GEAR DOOR NOT FULLY CLOSED WARNING. WHILE CHKING FOR WING ICE, EXCEEDED ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: ON THE MIDWAY 4 DEP WITH A CLRNC TO CLB TO 3000 FT, I INADVERTENTLY CLBED THROUGH 3000 FT TO APPROX 3400 FT. I WAS DISTR AT THE TIME LOOKING OUTSIDE THE ACFT TO SEE IF WE WERE BUILDING ICE. WHEN I LOOKED UP, WE HAD PASSED 3000 FT, AND DEP WAS ISSUING A CLB TO FL230. NO CONFLICT WAS RPTED TO ME. SINCE THE RWY WAS CONTAMINATED, I HAD LEFT THE GEAR DOWN IN THE INITIAL CLB TO CLR THE SNOW. ON RETRACTION, THE GEAR DOORS DID NOT FULLY CLOSE INITIALLY, AND I WAS DISTR BY THIS AS WELL, JUST AT THE TIME I WOULD HAVE BEEN DECREASING MY CLB RATE FOR LEVELOFF. I CHKED THE L WING TO SEE IF A HVY ACCUMULATION OF ICE MIGHT HAVE AFFECTED GEAR RETRACTION. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE INSTS, I HAD EXCEEDED 3000 FT, BUT AT THAT MOMENT WE WERE CLRED TO FL230, GEAR DOORS SHOWED CLOSED, AND THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS NORMAL.
