Narrative:
Our aircraft was taxiing towards the active runway announcing on the CTAF (tower was closed) our error was that although we were monitoring the CTAF on communication #1, we made the error of transmitting on communication #2 on the incorrect frequency. Hence another aircraft which was in position at the departure end of runway 14 was unaware of our presence taking off from runway 32. A potentially serious conflict may have occurred had the aircraft on runway 14 not had delayed its takeoff roll. The aircraft on runway 14 maintains that he was making position reports on the CTAF. We were totally unaware of his presence. We discovered our error upon joining the traffic pattern while attempting to pick up our IFR clearance from new york approach. Remedial training regarding checking and use of audio panel.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ATX LJ55 FLC, ON A POSITIONING FLT, XMITTED THEIR INTENTION TO DEPART ON RWY 32 ON THE WRONG FREQ. FORTUNATELY, THE ATX C340 FREIGHTER, AWAITING DEP ON RWY 14 DELAYED ITS TKOF.
Narrative: OUR ACFT WAS TAXIING TOWARDS THE ACTIVE RWY ANNOUNCING ON THE CTAF (TWR WAS CLOSED) OUR ERROR WAS THAT ALTHOUGH WE WERE MONITORING THE CTAF ON COM #1, WE MADE THE ERROR OF XMITTING ON COM #2 ON THE INCORRECT FREQ. HENCE ANOTHER ACFT WHICH WAS IN POS AT THE DEP END OF RWY 14 WAS UNAWARE OF OUR PRESENCE TAKING OFF FROM RWY 32. A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS CONFLICT MAY HAVE OCCURRED HAD THE ACFT ON RWY 14 NOT HAD DELAYED ITS TKOF ROLL. THE ACFT ON RWY 14 MAINTAINS THAT HE WAS MAKING POS RPTS ON THE CTAF. WE WERE TOTALLY UNAWARE OF HIS PRESENCE. WE DISCOVERED OUR ERROR UPON JOINING THE TFC PATTERN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PICK UP OUR IFR CLRNC FROM NEW YORK APCH. REMEDIAL TRAINING REGARDING CHKING AND USE OF AUDIO PANEL.
