Narrative:
Descending into the dallas/ft worth area via the glen rose 4 arrival. The restr at hirst intersection of 250 KTS at 12000 ft was programmed in the FMC. During the descent, we were cleared to cross hirst intersection at 11000 ft and delete the speed. One of the flight attendants had come to the cockpit when this was given. As a result I heard 'delete the speed' but not the 11000 ft. The captain correctly entered 11000 ft in the altitude alerter, but I failed to notice. When the autoplt didn't capture altitude hold at 12000 ft, I noticed 11000 ft in the alerter and questioned the captain as to our cleared altitude. The captain said we were cleared to cross hirst intersection at 11000 ft. We crossed hirst intersection at approximately 11600 ft. There was no known conflict or traffic for us. This could have been averted if I was paying closer attention to flying instead of being distraction by flight attendants and relying on the FMC. A better xchk of the altitude alerter will be incorporated.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FO OF A B737 FAILED TO MEET INTERMEDIATE XING ALT DURING STAR ARR DUE TO NOT HEARING THE AMENDED CLRNC DUE TO DISTR.
Narrative: DSNDING INTO THE DALLAS/FT WORTH AREA VIA THE GLEN ROSE 4 ARR. THE RESTR AT HIRST INTXN OF 250 KTS AT 12000 FT WAS PROGRAMMED IN THE FMC. DURING THE DSCNT, WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS HIRST INTXN AT 11000 FT AND DELETE THE SPD. ONE OF THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD COME TO THE COCKPIT WHEN THIS WAS GIVEN. AS A RESULT I HEARD 'DELETE THE SPD' BUT NOT THE 11000 FT. THE CAPT CORRECTLY ENTERED 11000 FT IN THE ALT ALERTER, BUT I FAILED TO NOTICE. WHEN THE AUTOPLT DIDN'T CAPTURE ALT HOLD AT 12000 FT, I NOTICED 11000 FT IN THE ALERTER AND QUESTIONED THE CAPT AS TO OUR CLRED ALT. THE CAPT SAID WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS HIRST INTXN AT 11000 FT. WE CROSSED HIRST INTXN AT APPROX 11600 FT. THERE WAS NO KNOWN CONFLICT OR TFC FOR US. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVERTED IF I WAS PAYING CLOSER ATTN TO FLYING INSTEAD OF BEING DISTR BY FLT ATTENDANTS AND RELYING ON THE FMC. A BETTER XCHK OF THE ALT ALERTER WILL BE INCORPORATED.
