Narrative:

Climbing through 10000 ft, the lead flight attendant came in the cockpit and reported smoke coming from under the forward coat closet. I told ZBW we wanted an immediate return to bdl. The first officer was flying. I declared an emergency, accomplished checklists, briefed the approach. I then made the landing, which was overweight. During the descent, the flight attendant told me there was no additional smoke coming in. After landing, the cabin appeared clear of smoke, so I taxied to the gate, deplaned passenger through the jetway, then had the fire department and maintenance inspect aircraft.
