Narrative:
Landed at geu. Both mains touched down, wind gust from right lifted right wing and right landing gear. This turned the aircraft to the right with the left wing almost touching the runway. I reduced power completely and turned the yoke into the wind to set the right wheel back on the runway. This put the aircraft off the right side of the runway. I held the aircraft straight and regained control. This put the aircraft off the runway and in the dirt. While slowing the aircraft down, I avoided runway lights and signs. After the aircraft stopped, I requested clearance to parking ramp.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A STUDENT PLT IN A C172 EXPERIENCES A GUST OF WIND FROM THE R AND HAS A RWY EXCURSION BEFORE ASSUMING CTL OF THE ACFT.
Narrative: LANDED AT GEU. BOTH MAINS TOUCHED DOWN, WIND GUST FROM R LIFTED R WING AND R LNDG GEAR. THIS TURNED THE ACFT TO THE R WITH THE L WING ALMOST TOUCHING THE RWY. I REDUCED PWR COMPLETELY AND TURNED THE YOKE INTO THE WIND TO SET THE R WHEEL BACK ON THE RWY. THIS PUT THE ACFT OFF THE R SIDE OF THE RWY. I HELD THE ACFT STRAIGHT AND REGAINED CTL. THIS PUT THE ACFT OFF THE RWY AND IN THE DIRT. WHILE SLOWING THE ACFT DOWN, I AVOIDED RWY LIGHTS AND SIGNS. AFTER THE ACFT STOPPED, I REQUESTED CLRNC TO PARKING RAMP.
