Narrative:
I was entering left downwind for runway 13 as instructed by ATC. My altitude was 1000 ft AGL. As I entered the downwind I was advised to look for the rolling falcon on takeoff on runway 5. ATC also advised that I fly behind the falcon if a conflict was possible. As the falcon lifted off, I decided to turn to ensure separation. By the time I turned left, the falcon was not a factor. I re-established myself on the left downwind and continued. While I was advised that the falcon was rolling and I reported visual and followed ATC instructions, it is possible that the falcon captain only had visual at a later stage and may have felt the situation was more dangerous than it was.

Title: PLT OF A C172R TOOK PRECAUTIONARY AVOIDANCE BY MAKING A L TURN WHILE DOWNWIND FOR A DEPARTING FALCON ON INITIAL CLB FROM INTERSECTING RWY TO ASSURE SEPARATION. THE TWR CTLR HAD ISSUED APPROPRIATE TA'S.
Narrative: I WAS ENTERING L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 13 AS INSTRUCTED BY ATC. MY ALT WAS 1000 FT AGL. AS I ENTERED THE DOWNWIND I WAS ADVISED TO LOOK FOR THE ROLLING FALCON ON TKOF ON RWY 5. ATC ALSO ADVISED THAT I FLY BEHIND THE FALCON IF A CONFLICT WAS POSSIBLE. AS THE FALCON LIFTED OFF, I DECIDED TO TURN TO ENSURE SEPARATION. BY THE TIME I TURNED L, THE FALCON WAS NOT A FACTOR. I RE-ESTABLISHED MYSELF ON THE L DOWNWIND AND CONTINUED. WHILE I WAS ADVISED THAT THE FALCON WAS ROLLING AND I RPTED VISUAL AND FOLLOWED ATC INSTRUCTIONS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE FALCON CAPT ONLY HAD VISUAL AT A LATER STAGE AND MAY HAVE FELT THE SIT WAS MORE DANGEROUS THAN IT WAS.
