Narrative:
We were given airspeed of 250 KTS, 80 mi from lax. While on downwind at 11 DME on ILS to runway 24R, we were given heading of 230 degrees to intercept the localizer and cleared for the approach. We could not see the field because of the haze. 1/2 way through the turn we were given traffic on a straight-in to runway 25L which was on a conflicting course. I increased angle of bank to turn away from the other aircraft that was above and behind us. We received 1 RA to descend. A normal landing was made. Downwind heading was 070 degrees. Downwind track should be wider to give aircraft more room to turn to final.
