Narrative:

A large black bird impacted the left wing leading edge. Slat segment was later replaced. The bird was not seen by either pilot until it was almost abeam the cockpit. We were turning on to final (approximately 25 degree bank) and were looking at the runway, not straight ahead. More should be done to keep birds away from airport areas.
