Narrative:
We were departing ont on PRADO5.pdz departure and unbeknownst to us the FMC had dropped the routing and gave us direct to thermal instead of the 130 degree heading to nikkl then trm. As a result, we picked up a heading of 100 degrees. As we rolled out, socal directed us to turn to a 120 degree heading and continue. Nothing else was said. We immediately understood the mistake and asked if he wanted us to correct to 130 degrees to socal controller said 120 degrees would be fine. Supplemental information from acn 430407: prior to departure, FMC was loaded with prado 5 departure. First officer was at controls, I was monitoring. An monitoring pilot, I should be on raw data versus map status.

Title: A DEP B737-500 PROCEEDS DIRECT TO THE NEXT FIX, TRM, AFTER THE FMC DROPS OUT THE CORRECT ROUTING FOR THE PRADO 5 DEP PROC.
Narrative: WE WERE DEPARTING ONT ON PRADO5.PDZ DEP AND UNBEKNOWNST TO US THE FMC HAD DROPPED THE ROUTING AND GAVE US DIRECT TO THERMAL INSTEAD OF THE 130 DEG HDG TO NIKKL THEN TRM. AS A RESULT, WE PICKED UP A HDG OF 100 DEGS. AS WE ROLLED OUT, SOCAL DIRECTED US TO TURN TO A 120 DEG HDG AND CONTINUE. NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. WE IMMEDIATELY UNDERSTOOD THE MISTAKE AND ASKED IF HE WANTED US TO CORRECT TO 130 DEGS TO SOCAL CTLR SAID 120 DEGS WOULD BE FINE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 430407: PRIOR TO DEP, FMC WAS LOADED WITH PRADO 5 DEP. FO WAS AT CTLS, I WAS MONITORING. AN MONITORING PLT, I SHOULD BE ON RAW DATA VERSUS MAP STATUS.
