Narrative:
On cockpit preflight of smoke goggles, found black goggles instead of blue ones. Asked maintenance if the goggles were the correct ones and found they were A300/F100 goggles. These goggles fit the description in the operating manual. We need a better way to identify these goggles. The pictures in the operating manuals are poor and no part number is listed.

Title: A DC10 DURING A PREFLT CHK IT WAS DISCOVERED THE WRONG TYPE COCKPIT SMOKE GOGGLES WERE INSTALLED.
Narrative: ON COCKPIT PREFLT OF SMOKE GOGGLES, FOUND BLACK GOGGLES INSTEAD OF BLUE ONES. ASKED MAINT IF THE GOGGLES WERE THE CORRECT ONES AND FOUND THEY WERE A300/F100 GOGGLES. THESE GOGGLES FIT THE DESCRIPTION IN THE OPERATING MANUAL. WE NEED A BETTER WAY TO IDENT THESE GOGGLES. THE PICTURES IN THE OPERATING MANUALS ARE POOR AND NO PART NUMBER IS LISTED.
