Narrative:

Was flying my 8TH leg today as captain, with new first officer who had a bad attitude all day. We departed ft myers in VMC en route to tpa. Approach control cleared us to 8000 ft. First officer read back 9000 ft. 9000 ft was entered in altitude preselect box. After leveling off at 9000 ft, approach asked our altitude. We read back 9000 ft. He advised we were assigned 8000 ft. We were then told to descend and maintain 8000 ft.
