Narrative:

ATC (bay approach on 120.1) cleared us 'direct oak, cross moffett at or above 2500 ft.' next sector (121.3) cleared us 'straight in oak runway 27R.' third sector (135.1) cleared us to 'straight-in runway 27R via hwd, at or above 2000 ft.' I complied with instructions. When over hwd airport at 2000 ft, ATC asked, 'do you know where cal state hayward is?' I replied, 'negative.' he then said, 'next time you don't know where I'm sending you, ask.' cal state was not mentioned before this, though it is a charted reporting point on the san francisco class B airspace chart. Suggestion: when the frequency is congested, extra clarity is demanded. 'Hayward' could be a city, an airport, or a college. The difference is important.

Title: PLT OF A NORTH AMERICAN NAVION, WAS ASKED BY APCH CTLR IF HE KNEW WHERE A CERTAIN LANDMARK WAS LOCATED DURING ARR UNDER CLASS B AIRSPACE. THE RPTR HAD NOT HEARD THAT REF MADE IN HIS CLRNC. THE CTLR OBVIOUSLY EXPECTED THE RPTR WOULD BE OVER THAT POINT RATHER THAN THE ARPT GIVEN IN HIS CLRNC.

Narrative: ATC (BAY APCH ON 120.1) CLRED US 'DIRECT OAK, CROSS MOFFETT AT OR ABOVE 2500 FT.' NEXT SECTOR (121.3) CLRED US 'STRAIGHT IN OAK RWY 27R.' THIRD SECTOR (135.1) CLRED US TO 'STRAIGHT-IN RWY 27R VIA HWD, AT OR ABOVE 2000 FT.' I COMPLIED WITH INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN OVER HWD ARPT AT 2000 FT, ATC ASKED, 'DO YOU KNOW WHERE CAL STATE HAYWARD IS?' I REPLIED, 'NEGATIVE.' HE THEN SAID, 'NEXT TIME YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M SENDING YOU, ASK.' CAL STATE WAS NOT MENTIONED BEFORE THIS, THOUGH IT IS A CHARTED RPTING POINT ON THE SAN FRANCISCO CLASS B AIRSPACE CHART. SUGGESTION: WHEN THE FREQ IS CONGESTED, EXTRA CLARITY IS DEMANDED. 'HAYWARD' COULD BE A CITY, AN ARPT, OR A COLLEGE. THE DIFFERENCE IS IMPORTANT.
