Narrative:
I was in contact with daytona approach control on the way to mco and was waiting for turn over to orlando approach control. I called daytona approach control and said I thought I was getting close to orlando, and she replied she forgot about me and gave me the changeover frequency. On contact with orlando approach control, he said I had entered his TCA without communication, I was then turned over to another controller which gave me vectors, he asked if I had the airport in sight. I told him I had mco in sight and he said cleared for the visual and land runway 18R no lower than 2500 ft south of the VOR. After reaching the VOR and trying to ask to switch to tower on final she was very busy, so I switched to tower. Down final, I tried numerous times to call tower and could not get them. I thought from the clearance given by approach and no aircraft on runway or txwys and traffic behind me, I thought the safest thing to do was land and clear as soon as possible. Once clearing the runway, I finally got ground control which asked if I had spoken to tower? I told him I was having radio trouble and was cleared to ramp. On postflt maintenance inspection revealed the radio communication xfer switch was faulty which has been corrected. I feel I depended on daytona approach too much to release me in time for orlando TCA. I should have contacted orlando approach or asked daytona to switch me earlier. In the future, I will do a much better job of forethought.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A VFR PIPER PA24 PLT HAD A LATE FREQ CHANGE FROM DAB TO MCO AND WAS ALREADY IN THE CLASS B AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I WAS IN CONTACT WITH DAYTONA APCH CTL ON THE WAY TO MCO AND WAS WAITING FOR TURN OVER TO ORLANDO APCH CTL. I CALLED DAYTONA APCH CTL AND SAID I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING CLOSE TO ORLANDO, AND SHE REPLIED SHE FORGOT ABOUT ME AND GAVE ME THE CHANGEOVER FREQ. ON CONTACT WITH ORLANDO APCH CTL, HE SAID I HAD ENTERED HIS TCA WITHOUT COM, I WAS THEN TURNED OVER TO ANOTHER CTLR WHICH GAVE ME VECTORS, HE ASKED IF I HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT. I TOLD HIM I HAD MCO IN SIGHT AND HE SAID CLRED FOR THE VISUAL AND LAND RWY 18R NO LOWER THAN 2500 FT S OF THE VOR. AFTER REACHING THE VOR AND TRYING TO ASK TO SWITCH TO TWR ON FINAL SHE WAS VERY BUSY, SO I SWITCHED TO TWR. DOWN FINAL, I TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO CALL TWR AND COULD NOT GET THEM. I THOUGHT FROM THE CLRNC GIVEN BY APCH AND NO ACFT ON RWY OR TXWYS AND TFC BEHIND ME, I THOUGHT THE SAFEST THING TO DO WAS LAND AND CLR ASAP. ONCE CLRING THE RWY, I FINALLY GOT GND CTL WHICH ASKED IF I HAD SPOKEN TO TWR? I TOLD HIM I WAS HAVING RADIO TROUBLE AND WAS CLRED TO RAMP. ON POSTFLT MAINT INSPECTION REVEALED THE RADIO COM XFER SWITCH WAS FAULTY WHICH HAS BEEN CORRECTED. I FEEL I DEPENDED ON DAYTONA APCH TOO MUCH TO RELEASE ME IN TIME FOR ORLANDO TCA. I SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED ORLANDO APCH OR ASKED DAYTONA TO SWITCH ME EARLIER. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL DO A MUCH BETTER JOB OF FORETHOUGHT.
