Narrative:
While taxiing in to gate at bwi, I cleared runway 10 by turning left onto runway 4, then left on taxiway P. First officer contacted ground control, and we were told to 'taxi to the gate via taxiway a.' I taxied via what I thought was a proper route to the gate. No aircraft were on gate xa through xo. I had the taxi chart out and was referring to it. I then went around a building to the right, and taxied between concourse and the building. As I taxied, it seemed a little unusual, so I looked for signage indicating 'no taxi' or the like and saw none. I proceeded to the gate, and after parking I looked carefully at the taxi chart and only then discovered a note with a long leader line pointing to the area I had just taxied through. It said the area was for gate parking only. I have now highlighted the note. At no time were personnel or equipment in danger. I feel the note on the chart was easy to miss even when looking at the chart carefully. Obviously I will be more diligent in the future. I spoke to the controller in the tower after the flight, and he said there had been no conflict and to just be careful in the future.

Title: FLC TAXIES THROUGH DESIGNATED PARKING AREA AT BWI.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING IN TO GATE AT BWI, I CLRED RWY 10 BY TURNING L ONTO RWY 4, THEN L ON TXWY P. FO CONTACTED GND CTL, AND WE WERE TOLD TO 'TAXI TO THE GATE VIA TXWY A.' I TAXIED VIA WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A PROPER RTE TO THE GATE. NO ACFT WERE ON GATE XA THROUGH XO. I HAD THE TAXI CHART OUT AND WAS REFERRING TO IT. I THEN WENT AROUND A BUILDING TO THE R, AND TAXIED BTWN CONCOURSE AND THE BUILDING. AT NO TIME WERE PERSONNEL OR EQUIP IN DANGER. I FEEL THE NOTE ON THE CHART WAS EASY TO MISS EVEN WHEN LOOKING AT THE CHART CAREFULLY. OBVIOUSLY I WILL BE MORE DILIGENT IN THE FUTURE. I SPOKE TO THE CTLR IN THE TWR AFTER THE FLT, AND HE SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO CONFLICT AND TO JUST BE CAREFUL IN THE FUTURE.
