Narrative:
Aborted takeoff at 90 KTS due to surging left engine. It was difficult to tell local as they were 'moving traffic,' clearing plane behind us for takeoff and putting another into position and hold. We did get our call off and cleared the runway. After we stopped on a taxiway to make a PA and talk to maintenance, the brakes would not release. We had to deplane on the taxiway. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the engine surging has not been released by maintenance and it is the air carrier's policy not to disclose this information to the flcs.

Title: A DC9-30 ON TKOF ROLL REJECTED THE TKOF DUE TO #1 ENG SURGING. CAUSE UNKNOWN.
Narrative: ABORTED TKOF AT 90 KTS DUE TO SURGING L ENG. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TELL LCL AS THEY WERE 'MOVING TFC,' CLRING PLANE BEHIND US FOR TKOF AND PUTTING ANOTHER INTO POS AND HOLD. WE DID GET OUR CALL OFF AND CLRED THE RWY. AFTER WE STOPPED ON A TXWY TO MAKE A PA AND TALK TO MAINT, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RELEASE. WE HAD TO DEPLANE ON THE TXWY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE ENG SURGING HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED BY MAINT AND IT IS THE ACR'S POLICY NOT TO DISCLOSE THIS INFO TO THE FLCS.
