Narrative:
We were level at 6000 ft. ATC (124.9) gave us a new altitude clearance to 4000 ft. Air carrier X flight read back 'air carrier X descend to 4000 ft.' as descending through 4200 ft, ATC on 124.9 said 'air carrier X you busted your altitude.' prior to descent, captain and first officer verified 4000 ft per air carrier X procedures. On ground, called and discussed the matter. The call was at XX03-XX12. Matter was resolved by phone call.
